Annual Bataan Commemorative Exhibition

Each year, the New Mexico Military Museum honors a New Mexico Bataan veteran through a dedicated exhibition highlighting their life, service, and legacy. Through personal stories, artifacts, and historical context, the exhibit preserves and shares the experiences of those who endured the Bataan Campaign. The New Mexico Military Museum's Annual Bataan Commemorative Exhibit is our annual commitment to honoring and preserving the legacy of the soldiers who endured the Bataan Death March. This history remains deeply personal to New Mexico, where the sacrifice, resilience, and service of these men continue to shape our collective memory. Each year on April 9, we reflect on their courage, honor those who survived and those who did not return, and ensure their stories are carried forward for future generations. This exhibit is hosted by Department of Veterans Affairs located at 407 Galisteo, Santa Fe, NM 87501.

The garden is also home to a Liberty Tree, planted in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, symbolizing the enduring values of liberty and service. Bronze markers further recognize the soldiers of the Santa Fe Royal Presidio and the Spanish patriots whose contributions supported the cause of American independence. The Museum's new Presidio Soldiers and Liberty Tree features were developed in partnership with the Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
